Answer given by Ms Kyriakides on behalf of the European Commission 3.7.2024 The Commission is aware that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) may cause symptoms of sexual dysfunction, with some reports of symptoms continuing despite discontinuation of the treatment. The product information of SSRIs and SNRIs is updated to inform patients that, in some cases, side effects of sexual dysfunction may be long-lasting or persistent. Patients with untreated depression could already experience some type of sexual dysfunction prior to treatment and even more serious consequences if not treated. For the authorised SSRIs and SNRIs, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has concluded the benefits risk ratio as positive. One of the priorities of Cluster 1 ‘Health’[1] of Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation[2], is the development of more effective preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic and monitori
